Your Discount Panerai Watch
Panerai has a long history of designing watches for the Italian Navy as well as for navies of other
Mediterranean countries. 1993, Panerai began producing watches for the civilian market. Until recently, most of
Panerai’s watches have used movements and backs from other watch manufacturers. 1995, a special edition was of
watches were made under the name Slytech. Sylvestor Stallone was filming needed a waterproof watch. The watch in
the movie was called Submersible. After the movie, Stallone requested a watch with a white face and that was named
after the movie, Daylight. These watches come with the actor’s signature on the back. As of 2005, Panerai watches
began being designed and built completely in-house.
Currently there are two collections: Panerai and Ferrari. The Panerai collection is broken down into Luminor and
Radiomir. These were terms to describe the luminescent technology the company had invented for the watches to be
used by the Italian Navy. Luminor and Radiomir were designed to have oversized faces, for readability underwater,
water resistance, and reliability. The Luminor was designed with a lever device to protect the crown. Models are
also available in a left-hand version. The idea of a left-hand version was because when you are diving you already
have gauges on your left and so you would where the watch on your right hand.
The Ferrari collection consists of 3 lines: Granturismo, Scuderia, and Special Editions. The Ferrari collection
displays the hours, minutes, seconds and date, the movement is automatic on all 3 lines while it is manual on the
Special Edition 8 days GMT model. Granturismo and Scuderia offer a GMT model for a second time zone. Granturismo
offers a GMT with alarm. Scuderia offers a chronograph model with two counters and tachymeter scale. The Special
Edition offers two models with a perpetual calendar, one in steel and the other in 18 ct. pink gold. The
Granturismo and Special Editions come with straps that have black calf on the outside and red alligator on the
inside. The Scuderia has yellow alligator on the inside of it’s strap.
Panerai is new to the civilian market and is finally design the watches completely in-house. There selection is
limited in volume and style. I do hope to see more from this company in the future.
